A discount grow light such as a 400 watt grow light is much more efficient, producing more light, but also more heat. HID lights are another option but require additional maintenance and expense of ballast. HID grow lights are slow to warm up to full strength. It can take close to 100 hours of burning before the light intensity and color stabilizes.
